Cellular Therapy Facility Renovation + Expansion Design
CRB provided architectural and engineering services ranging from schematic design through construction administration for the renovation and expansion of a cellular therapy facility that manufactures biologics and processes tissues for human clinical use.
This facility, used by the clinical bone marrow/progenitor cell therapy program, is used for the transplantation of blood, bone marrow and cord blood stem cells to treat cancer patients and individuals born with certain genetic conditions as a part of inpatient and outpatient treatment. The cells that are infused or transplanted into these patients are typically procured and processed in house and include stem cells and donor lymphocytes for adult and pediatric transplant programs.
CRB developed a space qualified to process and manufacture these human therapies in accordance with Current Good Manufacturing Practice and Current Good Tissue Practice, as well as sections 351 and 362 of the Public Health Services Act that regulate human cells, tissue and cellular- and tissue-based products.
This project entailed the fit-out for the new cellular therapy facility in an existing 8,000-square-foot shell space. The facility has wet labs for manufacturing, separate electrical and data rooms, supply storage space and personnel space for 14 staff members, including offices, cubicles, lockers and meeting spaces. A new mechanical room with a stand-alone mechanical system supports the program.
