Laboratory Renovation ONEsolution
The goal of this project was to modernize a laboratory and faculty office for Lu Wei, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Wei is recognized for developing novel imaging techniques that allow simultaneous visualization of larger number of distinct biological species inside cells. Areas of research interest and expertise include optical bio-imaging, chemical biology, nonlinear coherent spectroscopy and microscopy and physical chemistry
Wei’s space is located in the basement level of the Arthur Amos Noyes Laboratory of Chemical Physics.
CRB provided ONEsolution services for this lab renovation project. CRB met with Caltech representatives and users to determine design and construction requirements and verify the conceptual floor plan provided by Caltech. Scope included the following items:
- Lab planning and casework design
- Verification of existing building systems, including domestic water, sewer, campus chilled water and steam, electrical, fire protection, fire alarm and building monitoring systems, to determine their location, capacity and suitability
- Field measurement and documentation of existing conditions
- Schematic designs, floor plans, equipment layout and interior elevations
Design services included schematic design, construction documents and construction administration.
