Jason Robertson to speak at 2021 KC SmartPort Annual Industry Briefing

Jun 21, 2021

Jason Robertson will discuss rapid changes in the food industry at the 2021 KC SmartPort Annual Industry Briefing, KC Delivers: The Hub for Food Logistics.

Hear about top trends in the $5.9 trillion dollar global food and beverage industry, including changes in consumer purchasing habits, the need for speed-to-market solutions, new production technology and delivery in an on-demand world.

“The level of innovation in the food industry today is impressive. Food processors are being challenged to develop new solutions and products to meet increasing consumer demand in a race to market. It’s exciting to watch these innovative products emerge with the support of our universities, research facilities and processors.” - Jason Robertson, Vice President, Food+Beverage

Kansas City has more than 200 food manufacturers generating $9.4 billion and employing more than 100,000 people, according to the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC).

The region offers logistical solutions to consumer demand, adding to the area’s allure. From Kansas City, distribution centers and manufacturing plants can reach 85% of the continental U.S. population in two days by truck and almost 100% in three days, according to KCADC.

“We’re seeing a growing number of food processors consider sites in the midwest to tackle logistics challenges. With shipping costs on the rise and demand for trucks outpacing available freight volumes, food processors are seeking centralized locations to protect their overall earnings.” - Robertson
