Topics covered by the keynote and panel speakers include food production and the technologies used, how consumers buy food, as well as food distribution and delivery in an on-demand world.
Kansas City has more than 200 food manufacturers generating $9.4 billion and employing more than 100,000 people, according to the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC).
The region offers logistical solutions to consumer demand, adding to the area’s allure. From Kansas City, distribution centers and manufacturing plants can reach 85% of the continental U.S. population in two days by truck and almost 100% in three days, according to KCADC.
“We’re seeing a growing number of food processors consider sites in the midwest to tackle logistics challenges,” adds Robertson. “With shipping costs on the rise and demand for trucks outpacing available freight volumes, food processors are seeking centralized locations to protect their overall earnings.”
