Jul 26, 2012
Each year the Engineering News-Record provides their Top 200 International Design Firms list for the global market. According to the article, as a group the Top 200 saw an increase in revenue from $57.66 billion in 2010 up to $65.31 billion in 2011, a 13.3 percent increase for international projects. The domestic revenue increased as well by 9.8 percent, up from $59.40 billion in 2010 to $65.24 billion in 2011. Overall design revenue was up 11.4 percent from 2010. The largest increase represents the Latin American/Caribbean market who gained a 37.8 percent increase from 2010.
This year marked the first for CRB to be recognized on the list. Over the last 2 years, CRB has provided design services for projects in over 18 different countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. The total international revenue for 2011 was over $15MM.
Although overall revenue is up for the ranked firms, financial turmoil in Europe and the U.S. keeps companies wary. For countries that do struggle, governments aim to look for possible solutions to help in the long-term. In some cases this means relocating and focusing on investing in infrastructure. The article points out that to add to the pressure, clients and prospective employees’ expectations for design firms have increased, looking for those who have become larger and can provide better technical and financial resources. Industry consolidation was a major trend shown in this year’s report, presenting big firms who continue to acquire smaller ones.
